We Are Saugus Cheer
Saugus Cheer is proud to be the only high school in the Santa Clarita Valley to have successfully maintained a sideline and competitive cheer program for over ten years.
Our program now includes Sideline, Competition, and Game Day cheer teams.
Cheer teams have been an integral part of the high school campus for many years.
Sideline Cheer
Cheerleaders have long been associated with high school sporting events, showing school spirit, and getting the crowd to cheer their team on to victory. This is SIDELINE cheer.
-
Sideline teams are based on skill AND grade level and are comprised of the following:
JV - 9th & 10th graders
Varsity - 10th, 11th & 12th graders
-
Sideline athletes may be asked to stunt and/or tumble to their level of proficiency. Tumbling is an integral part of our program, so athletes are encouraged to pursue additional training and practice in tumbling.
-
Spring: Practices are Monday through Thursday evenings
Summer: Practice once a week.
Fall: Practice twice a week after school and up to two cheer events each week. Most sideline events occur on weekdays.
Competition Cheer
There is another side of cheer. It demands athleticism. It is physically and mentally challenging. It requires endurance, strength, communication, and precise teamwork. It also requires a drive to win. This is COMPETITION cheer.
-
Competition teams are based on capabilities and needs of the overall team and individual athlete skill level. Individual athletes may be moved from one team to another due to the needs of the team or if the athlete’s skills change.
JV Competition: 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th graders
Varsity Competition: 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th graders
Saugus competition teams are selected from Saugus Sideline cheerleaders by the Saugus High School Cheer coaches. All team placement/movement and level of competition is at their discretion.
-

-
Competition cheerleaders are sideline cheerleaders; all sideline commitments apply to competition cheerleaders. In addition:
Spring: Practices are Monday through Thursday evenings
Summer: Practices are Monday through Thursday, typically during the evening.
Fall: Practice 2-3 times a week after school.
Game Day Cheer
Another side of cheer has also emerged. A mix of sideline and competition cheer, it focuses on crowd leading and tumbling—but no stunts. This is GAME DAY cheer.
-
Game Day teams are based on capabilities and needs of the overall team and individual athlete skill level.
Game Day: 10th, 11th and 12th graders
Saugus Game Day teams are selected from Saugus Competition cheerleaders by the Saugus High School Cheer coaches. All team placement/movement and level of competition is at their discretion.
-
Competition athletes may be asked to tumble to their level of proficiency. Tumbling is an integral part of our program, so athletes are encouraged to pursue additional training and practice in tumbling. Game Day does not stunt.
-
Game Day cheerleaders are competition cheerleaders; all sideline and competition commitments apply to Game Day cheer leaders. In addition:
Spring: Practices are Monday through Thursday evenings
